CURRENCY REDESIGN CRISIS : THE NEED FOR QUICK INTERVENTION BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO AVERT ANARCHY . BY BESIRU ENAKHIMION .

Image
To reform a policy means to make changes on the already existing one, to modify it , make the necessary corrections, improve upon it and make it better and more beneficial to those for whose sake it (reform) had been made . If a policy has not been beneficial to the people , it is expected that with the reform in the sector , the narrative will change for the better . However, in a situation where a reform causes hardship on the people for whose sake it was carried out, such move (reform) should be jettisoned . It should be reversed , except it was not originally meant for the good of the people .  All over the world, the duty of the government is to churn out policies that are people oriented. Who are the people in question? Those that are being governed by the government . However, in a situation where a reform carried out by the government turns out to be injurious and painful to the people who were supposed to benefit from it (reform )the right thing to do is for the government...

2023 General election : Three factors the electorates must jettison. By Amarachi Linda Egwaojie.

Democracy is a system of government which most countries in the world are clamouring for.  In fact it has been said at some quarters that the worst form of democratic government is better than the best form of military government . For many years, Nigerians clamoured for democracy . The military juntas' intervention or interruption denied them (Nigerians) the opportunity of enjoying democracy for some years . However, they finally got it in 1999. Since 1999, Nigeria has been enjoying the democratic system of governance . It has been on smoothly without any interruption .  The current democratic experience in the country will be 24years old in 2023 when the country is expected to go into another election .  The submission of many Nigerians is that the democratic government operated in the country is good and they want to continue to enjoy it. Nigerians have indeed enjoyed some dividends of democracy. However there are areas that they  are yearning for improvement....

WHY BUYING AND SELLING OF VOTES SHOULD BE STOPPED.

Image
"People that buy votes and those that sell their votes do not mean well for this country."  That was what an old politician, Mr Peter Adoghe said during my discussion with him on political matters in Benin City recently. "Why did you say so ? " .I asked the 80 year old man. The old man began to tell me the reasons for elections, how elections should be conducted and what he hates about elections in Nigeria..  Election, as we all know, is an aspect of any democratic process. It is a process that is originally meant to pick the best sets of leaders to lead members of a group or community. In a democratic setting like that of Nigeria, elections  are supposed to be means of getting the best leaders to occupy different elective offices in the country.  Unfortunately in Nigeria, elections have been trailed by different types of allegations of malpractices which have resulted to electing mediocres to occupy elective offices like those of the President of the country, Gover...

In same vein, when the country's general elections are approaching like the one of 2023,  the most discussed topic usually is politics and the election.  As Nigeria matches towards the 2023 general election right now, the most discussed issue in the country is the general election of 2023.  As expected, Nigerians are already talking about the 2023 general election. Most people are already talking about candidates vying for different positions. Possibilities of victories of some of them at the election is already being talked about too. Choice of political parties and candidates are being made. Ordinarily, elections are like examinations. In examinations some candidates succeed while some unfortunately fail.  In elections too, some candidates succeed in their asp...
