WHY THOSE ELECTED ON LABOUR PARTY PLATFORM SHOULD BE PRAYERFUL By Besiru Enakhimion.
Hon. Ndudi Elumelu.
Most of those elected on the platform of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election need to be very prayerful to avert losing their seats, as the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Asaba, Delta State , on Monday, voided the election of Hon. Ngozi Okolie who represents Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives .
Hon. Okolie of the Labour Party was returned elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in the February 25, 2023 general election .
The tribunal in the judgement held that Hon. Okolie was not duly sponsored by the Labour Party, as he was not a member of the party as at May 28, 2022 when the primary purportedly held.
The tribunal subsequently declared the runner up in the election, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the election.
Hon. Elumelu, the one time Minority Leader in the House of Representatives had sought for disqualification of Hon. Okolie at the tribunal through a petition .
At some other Election Petition Tribunals, candidates of other parties have sought for the disqualification of those elected on the platform of the Labour Party, for the same reason that has led to the sacking of Hon. Okolie .
