Shaibu advises outgoing corps members on entrepreneurship. By BESIRU ENAKHIMION
Members of 2021 Batch 'B' stream 1 Corps members who served in Edo State have been advised to apply their creativity and entrepreneurial skills acquired during the compulsory one - year National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) to secure a means of livelihood and become employers of labour.
The advice was given by the Acting Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu at the passing - out parade of the corps members at Imaguero Secondary School, Benin City.
He noted that the successful completion of the primary assignment is a proof of their abiding faith in the unity and progress of the country.
Rt. Hon. Comrade Shaibu advised the corps members to continue to remain as good ambassadors of the scheme and warned that they should not allow anybody to use them to settle political, religious or tribal differences to their own detriment .
"As a nation, we are going through serious security problems and those used to perpetuate evils are youths. Rather than being a part of these we should protect our nation as we are the leaders of tomorrow and the future belongs to us ". He added.
The Acting Governor also disclosed that the various contributions of the youth corps members to social development of Edo State in the areas of Education, Health care, Agriculture, Social Service and Rural infrastructure will forever be cherished by the government and residents of the State.
Rt. Hon. Comrade Shaibu who congratulated the corps members for the successful completion of their assignment also stressed that the state government places high premium on youth development and abhor youth restiveness ."This is why the welfare of corps members in our state is given due attention". He concluded.
The Acting Governor who declared the service year closed had earlier inspected guards and various batches of parade before taking a salute as the batches by outgoing corps members matched.
In her speech, the Edo State Coordinator of the Scheme, Mrs. Abiodun Olubukola commended the State government for providing the enabling environment for the corps members to contribute their quota to the development of the country. She also commended the corps members for exhibiting high sense of discipline, dedication, resilience and patriotism.
The Edo NYSC boss urged the outgoing corps members to be good ambassadors of the Scheme wherever they find themselves.
She advised them to put into practice the lessons of discipline, hard work, dedication, team work and honesty which Nigeria desperately yearn for at this critical time .
The outgoing corps members were full of excitement at the ceremony.
A total number of 1,503 corps members successfully completed their service year, 18 corps members who absconded are to repeat the service year at another location while the service year of four others have been extended.
